Riveria ammattiopisto

Professional competence from Riveria

At Riveria Vocational School, you can participate in vocational qualification programmes and instruction preparing for vocational education. We have about 14,500 students each year. We can arrange about 100 types of vocational qualifications from various fields of study. We operate in Joensuu, Kitee, Lieksa, Nurmes, Outokumpu and Valtimo.

Riveria offers the following preparatory education to immigrants:

TUVA instruction preparing for qualification studies (page in Finnish) prepares the student for vocational qualification studies. During the instruction, you can learn about different professions, improve your studying skills and think about your future plans. TUVA allows you to follow your own plans. TUVA is suitable for you if you are an immigrant and you wish to improve your Finnish language skills. Your Finnish language skill level must be A2.2 or higher.

MAMA vocational instruction for immigrants (page in Finnish) is intended for immigrants who wish to study a vocational field and find employment.
The instruction does not require a high Finnish language skill level, but some industries have higher language skill requirements. The suitability of the language skills for the studies is evaluated in the entrance interview.

At Riveria, students studying for a vocational qualification are offered S2 studies (Finnish as a second language) as part of their studies.

Supported path – support for immigrants in starting vocational studies (page in Finnish and Russian)

Supported path offers immigrants the chance to start vocational studies and receive Finnish language lessons and student guidance during their studies. The additional, supportive studies are offered by a Finnish language teacher and a counsellor. Supportive studies are usually offered at the start of the studies for about 2–6 months, depending on the need. The supportive studies help with managing the studies and sticking to the schedule.
